PE: Missing AVCHD 1080p60/AVCHD 1080p50 Project Presets/Non-English Installed Programs

INTRODUCTION

Back in 2012 and Premiere Element 11, one of the top issues was the AVCHD 1080p60 and AVCHD 1080p50 project presets whose files were present in the program files, but which were not showing up under the list of project presets in the path File Menu/New/Project/New Project dialog's Change Settings/Change Settings dialog.

In 2012, users forum exchange of information* pointed to the issue being targeted at those using the non-English installed version. At that time, Adobe pointed to the cause of the problem as error in these project preset files in the program files and offered downloadable replacements for them. See the following Adobe document found HERE.

ISSUE

The link posted in 2012 by Adobe for troubleshooting this matter now opens to the Adobe document "Missing Presets" with a "Last Published" December 19, 2016 and "Applies to Premiere Elements". Again, refer to HERE.

Because of the "Last Published = December 19, 2016 and the generalized "Applies to = Premiere Elements" of that document, it was decided to explore just how far beyond Premiere Elements 11 this issue exists. Note: At the time of December 19, 2016, it is estimated that Premiere Elements 15 would be the current version (release in September/October of 2016).

COMMENTARY

As written previously, because of the "Last Published = December 19 2016" and the generalized "Applies to = Premiere Elements" of the Adobe Missing Presets document, it was decided to explore just how far beyond Premiere Elements 11 this issue exists. The quick first look at this question compared just the non-English installed Premiere Elements 11 and non-English installed Premiere Elements 2018 (current version). Result - Non-English installed Premiere Elements 11 was found to have the issue, and non-English installed Premiere Elements 2018 did not.

What about the versions in between 11 and 2018 (version 12/12.1, 13/13.1, 14/14.1, and 15)? This question was looked at in a limited study with these versions using Dutch (Nederlands) settings for the non-English install for Premiere Elements. In that study, no problem existed for AVCHD 1080p60 and AVCHDp50 project presets in Premiere Elements 12/12.1, 13/13.1, 14/14.1, and 15. Downloads for 12/12.1 and 13/13.1 were from HERE. And, downloads for 14/14.1 and 15 were from HERE.

Until confirmed with a more comprehensive study on the matter, it was concluded that the above suggests that the Adobe document for troubleshooting missing AVCHD 1080p60 and AVCHD 1080p50 project presets in the non-English install Premiere Elements applies only to Premiere Elements 11.

See footnote *****for some notes on additional AVCHD 1080p60 information and footnote****** for some additional general comment.

**Study done with Premiere Elements versions on Windows 10 Home 64 bit.
***Although English (International) and English (Universal) are included in the list of languages covered by the download, those specific names are not asked for in the download and installation settings.
****Emoji were used to designate Result: 😃 = no project preset issue and 😞 = project preset issue.
*****The AVCHD 1080p60 and AVCHD 1080p50 project presets appear to be a regular part of Premiere Elements starting with version 11 and continuing through the current version 2018. For the Premiere Elements 10 user and the AVCHD 1080p60 project preset, see ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting blog post which is titled "PE10: AVCHD 1080p60 Project Preset", dated November 24, 2014, and found HERE.
******Premiere Elements install from an Adobe download requires the download of 2 files (7z and exe) for Premiere Elements 11 and 12; whereas, only one file (exe) is required to install Premiere Elements 13, 14, 15, or 2018 from the download. The difference in the number of required downloaded installation files does not appear to impact the Missing Presets matter. Note that both 11 and 12 each use 2 downloaded installation files for the install, but the Missing Presets issue exists for 11 and not 12.
